Thinking about getting a NZ Permanent Resident Visa?
Fulfilling the investor requirements can be confusing, intimidating and frustrating.
We’ve been where you are, and we can help.
Getting a Visa in a foreign land is a daunting experience for most. Once past the excitement of choosing your destination, the nitty gritty begins. Beyond investing in a country that may be thousands of miles away, how does one go about setting up the basic infrastructure to make it all work. Banking relationships, legal advice, accounting and tax service, foreign exchange, and more all stand between an applicant and ease of use. We know, because we both did it.
InvestorvisaNZ’s partners, Jason Elliott and Karl Eagle were in your position. Both started their investor class visa projects in 2022, with Jason coming from the US, and Karl moving in from China as a UK citizen. They know what it is like to have to start from zero to build a best in class infrastructure to oversee millions of dollars in investment capital from across the globe. NZ is a relationship driven community, and they have put in the work to become a part of this wonderful community. They will put this effort to work in helping you accomplish your NZ Visa goals.
Quick overview of the Active Investor Plus Visa
The Active Investor Plus Visa (AIP) provides individuals and their families with a path to stay in New Zealand without restriction. This includes most, but not all, of the rights and privileges associated with citizenship. For example, you can stay in NZ as long as you want, work, have access to health care and education, and potentially even vote. However, while you will not receive a NZ passport, is a step towards obtaining one. As of April 1, 2025, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) announced significant changes to the AIP program which are broadly, but not limited to, the below.
There are now two categories, “Growth” and “Balanced.”
The Growth category requires a minimum NZD $5M* investment. These investments must be made in approved investment funds and/or approved direct investments in private companies or their bonds. Applicants must make a three-year investment commitment as well as spending 21 days in-country.
The Balanced category requires a minimum NZD $10M* investment. These investments may be made in the same categories as the Growth category as well as publicly listed equities and bonds, new property development, and charities. This category requires that applicants make a five year investment commitment as well as spending at least 105 days in-country. However, the 105 day requirement may be “bought down” with additional investment commitments.
Both categories require the applicant to make their investment decisions within six months of application acceptance, but applicants may request a six month extension.
